ding: round one.

Phone interview with GAP Inc. this morning.

First time I have interviewed since I became an interviewer at Target over the summer.  I was so prepared.  Ready for all the questions.

And then my interviewer started to ask the questions.  And I remembered that interviewing is not about being ready to deliver the "right answers."  It is about being ready to be honest with the recruiter.  I want a job that is the right fit.  Which means if I am worried about saying the wrong thing, I am not the person for the position.

So I thought about my answers.  And said what I thought.  And got a second interview.

I fly to San Fran within the next couple weeks.

And the black and white does not convey my excitement.  So:

I FLY TO SAN FRAN WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS!

i saw a guy on a unicycle today.

As in a one-wheeled bicycle.

And he was just cycling to class.  Like it was not an abnormal occurrence. 

And although I would like this day to go down as the day that I saw the guy on a unicycle, it was also Career Fair day.  Hopefully today was my last Career Fair ever.  By next February, I would love to have a job.  So I can be one of the causally dressed business students wandering campus.  So I can be the guy on the unicycle.

But seriously.

Walked the path.  Stopped and chatted.  Dropped off some resumes.  Picked up some information. 

Feel good about General Mills.  Have already established a relationship because of the internship interview process.  Solid company.  Nice people.  Good location.

Also quite intrigued by Consolidated Graphics.  Need to spend some time on their site.  Need to take it in.  Looks promising.

What is really bizarre is the lack of pressure I feel right now.  The lack of stress and the desire to make spreadsheets is a little foreign to me.  Something is providing me with a sense of calm.

Maybe it was the unicycle.

i got nothing.

Weird.

I officially hate my computer.  Although I am scared to type that, because I think it will find out and then find more ways to be mean to me.  What it forgets is that when push comes to shove, I will shove it out a window.  Ha.  Beat that.

The good news is I got the okay from M & D to get a fabulous, new, white, beautiful, compact, pillar of efficiency and design for Christmas.  Yes, a MacBook.  Megan has always had one, and J just bought one.  And they truly are as good as the commercials claim.  The roommates and I are soon to be a little MacFamily.  We can iChat.  And play with our widgets together.

But until Christmas, I am typing away at this virus-ridden, noise-making, slow-moving, missing-a-F4-key, gray, beast of a computer.  And in addition to typing, I am backing up files.  All the music and papers and photos and layouts are going to have to find a new home.  Which is cool.  For them.  But secretly, it is also cool for me...because I get to reorganize my folders.  And label all my photos.  And delete unwanted documents. 

Sort of like Spring Cleaning for my hard-drive.  Minus the Swiffer Duster.  Plus the Recycle Bin.

That is Greek for "Happy Friday!"  I am not sure if there is a Roman language, so Greek will have to do.

so i learned a new drinking game...

...it is called "Thumper."  Even Meredith Grey wanted in on the action.

a tale of two worlds.

I talk about my two worlds a lot.

How they rarely collide.  How I am not sure how I would handle things if they did.

One world is home.  Sacramento.  High school.  The fam.  The girls.

The other world is SC.  Los Angeles.  The Row.  The Phi.  The girls.

In both worlds I work and play, eat and drink.  Only with different people.  In both worlds I try to be funny, try to be nice and try to not be awkward.  Only with different people.  The two worlds feel completely separate from one another.  Like the people in World I cannot understand World II.  And vice versa.

So right.  That is what I thought.

Until I was biking today.  And I saw a guy in a black t-shirt on a bike.  And I recognized his Rio Americano senior shirt before I recognized that he was Robbie.  And we stopped our bikes.  And we chatted.  And then we rode on.

And as I was biking away I realized that even though Ro and I are in the same place, we are no longer in each other's world.  We are in our own "post-home" worlds.

Which means the worlds have nothing to do with location.  My worlds are separated not by the state of California but by growth.  By experience.  By moving on.  And I do not have to worry about the worlds colliding.  Not really.  Because who I am came from World I.  It is being developed by World II.  It will continue to be shaped through World XII.  Which I imagine will begin the day I see my granddaughter at her first USC football game.

Edited to add:  I just rediscovered this quote:

That, my friends, is EXACTLY what I mean about my two worlds.
