This week you laughed for me.
Of course, it was when Dad was out of the room. Of course, it went un-witnessed. But it happened and it was awesome.
You'll learn someday that your mama loves to laugh. And I love to make people laugh. Very few things make my heart bloom the way getting a chuckle out of your dad or your Grandpa (my dad) does. As it turns out, getting you to laugh is even more rewarding. I told everyone that you laughed. Dad, the grandparents, your Great Aunt Sue who was in town for dinner, my yoga teacher, the librarian, twitter...everyone. "Just once!" I said, "but there will be more."
And I think that's the best part of this whole thing. Your first laugh was glorious, but it's just the start. Only a few weeks ago your smiles were rare and oh how we worked for them, but now they come easy and I love that so much. A few weeks from now you'll be laughing at everything. And someday you'll giggle not only at my funny sounds and raps, but you'll get my jokes. For sure you'll roll your eyes at many, but hopefully you'll laugh until you cry at a few too.
And someday you'll make me laugh. Not just with your head bobs, jerky dance moves or funny faces, but with your words. You'll take this language that we're teaching you and you'll mold it into your own. You'll craft sentences and surprise me with your wit, articulation and catch-phrases. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face.
Laughter is good, my sweet girl. Laughter heals and it warms. I'm so excited to introduce you to this special world where humor always wins.
yours forever, Mama.
