I spent the past two days writing a speech about Target. Well, Target was the topic. I had to come up with the idea and theme behind what I was going to say. After spinning around in a circle, I decided that the focus of my presentation was going to be on their marketing plan. Its phenomenal - no dispute there...but how did they do it? How did they make discount shopping "cool"?
Basically it was achieved through a CLEAR BRAND VISION. Something that everyone and everything needs. A strong SENSE OF SELF. Target's got it.
And so I fell even more in love with my favorite store. I found out that their VP of Marketing from 1988-2003 was John Pellegrene who believes that it is his duty to "solve problems - not create them." I was very inspired by this executive. And VERY inspired to work for Target. That might be the top of the goals list now. Yes. It is.
