bad idea.

Took a nap from 6:30-8:00 PM.  Not smart, Elise.  Going to be awake for the next 3 hours at least.

Getting stuff done though.  Catching up on reading.  Adjusting powerpoint presentations.  Packing for Sactown.  Buying iTunes [The OC Mix 2].  Shopping online at American Apparel.  I am all about those clothes.  Basics.  My favorite.

Am so very excited to go home.  Besides my three scheduled dentist appointments, it is going to be good times.  Dinner out with the fam.  Drinks out with the girls.  Shopping with the Mom.  Cooking with a stove instead of a microwave.  More favorite things.  Very good idea to go home.

to the point.

Spent the morning in Business Communication talking about effective business writing.  Established that it is important that your bottom line or point of the document is clearly stated near the top of your writing.

Studies have shown that while 90% of business people read a paper's introduction, only 20% continue on to read the body of the material.  In addition, they tend to be preoccupied and impatient - thus making it more important to deliver your message quickly and directly. 

Lesson 1: When I grow up, I am going to be preoccupied and impatient.  But at least I am going to be able to write well.

Lesson 2: What I really took from the class has nothing to do with writing.  It has to do with my communication in general.  How most situations would probably be easier if I was able to clearly state my point.  In conversations.  In arguments.  In my own head.  Sometimes, I think it is easier to dance around what I really want to say.  I figure that whomever I am talking to will be able to figure out what I mean.  Not true.  Convoluted ideas are confusing, distracting and ineffective.  Going to work on getting to the point.  Delivering the message.  One. Word. At. A. Time.

breakfast.

So, I still have weird morning insomnia.  As in, I have an internal alarm clock that thinks I should be awake at 5:30am.  Oddly enough, this alarm clock might be right. 

I cherish the morning. 

The house is quiet.  I make my breakfast - today: Eggo waffles with sugar-free syrup and a banana on top - then I read the paper.  Well, I skim each section and then try to figure out the New York Times Crossword.

It is my time.  No one to talk to.  Nothing to think about.  Just me.  & Breakfast.

• Clean sheets on the bed tonight.
• Working on the Classified Layouts for ABA Journal @ the internship.
• Yoga class Wednesday.
• Home on Thursday - Going out downtown with Kris and K.
• Relaxing and scrapbooking and shopping all weekend.
• Back at SC Monday, just in time for dinner and chapter.

Going to be a good one.
