July 18, 2013 and April 24, 2014.
I was taking some photos of Ellerie in my room today and remembered this photo from the early days. In my memory, it was one of my favorite photos of the two of us. I didn't pull it up for reference, just leaned back on the bed and hoped for the best.
When I combed my external harddrive looking for the original for this post, I was shocked. Comparing the two is like comparing night and day. Yes, the bed is the same. The lamp is the same. The same nightstand is littered with the same face lotion and water glass collection. The baby's outfit is nearly the same. My hair is the same. The emotion, however, is so different.
I remember that first photo feeling peaceful. And in some ways, it was. But the real contentment oozes out of the image taken today. I mean look at my brow. Totally furrowed vs. totally relaxed. Man, I am happy to be here, nine months and six days later.
Mamahood can feel like a whirlwind at times but when I see a side-by-side like this, I am reminded that the whirlwind is truly made up of miles.
